We have been commissioned to prepare designs for refurbishment and extension of this grade II* listed Georgian house in the central London Bloomsbury Conservation Area. The house was built in the 1720s but has been empty for 20 years and is on Historic England's Buildings at Risk register. .Currently configured as office space on the lower two floors and flats above, our proposal would convert it in to a single family dwelling.
Several back-extensions are to be removed and the rear of the house will be re-worked to provide a set of contemporary spaces that meet the needs of a 21st Century family, with minimum impact on the interiors of the main house. The new extension has been intricately designed around a ground floor courtyard garden and light well to make the most of the space and natural light amongst the confined walls of the surrounding buildings.
Careful analysis of the remaining historic features and comparison with its neighbours has enabled us to develop a detailed plan for repair and refurbishment of the building. Planning and listed building consent were granted by the London Borough of Camden in February 2016.
